Ever wondered about hiring a business coach? If so, you will have weighed up the cost of engaging one vs the payoff you’ll get. You might know someone who’s had a business coach before and their success was less than mediocre. So it’s a good question to consider.
Engaging a business coach won’t always mean you’re going to succeed and achieve unheard of results. There are some things you’ll have to bring to the party besides your monetary investment.
Time and energy
Your business coach will want to meet with you regularly. This is your face-to-face time with your coach. You’ll round up what you did and didn’t achieve since the last meeting. There’ll be successes to celebrate. You’ll also look at ways to improve results that weren’t so successful. The advice and ideas you’ll get will renew your energy and enthusiasm.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can skip these meetings. They may not be as urgent as other pressing matters, but they are vital if you are to achieve the results you’re after.
You can’t sit back and expect your profits to soar because you’ve engaged a coach. You must prepare to put in the yards yourself. That, of course, is what makes your accomplishments so sweet when you achieve them. This doesn’t mean you’ll have to work 10 times as hard. Your coach should help you to work smarter, not harder.
Be prepared to change
If you keep doing what you’ve always done, it shouldn’t be any surprise that you’ll get the same results. A business coach will provide new ideas and challenge the way you do things. Be prepared to try out these new methods and techniques.
“…The movement forward has been brilliant. I can see things happening and this gives me confidence …” more
What to look for in a business coach
Your coach must be someone you can relate to .. someone who talks your talk. Make sure they’re tough and durable …. they’ll need to be if they’re going to do a great job! You’ll want someone who won’t back down and will stand up for you and for your success! They’ll make you feel uncomfortable when you’re not at your best. They’ll get in your face more times that you’d like to remember.
Make sure you’ve got a business coach who is unafraid of telling you how it is, even when it’s perilous for them to do so!
“… asks the hard questions, which were sometimes hard to take … ” more
Finding your business coach
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you’ll find your coach within your existing organisation/team. They might be there, but they won’t be willing to risk losing their job to do what needs to be done. They may not be prepared to challenge you … to stand up and confront you and not back down. This is what you’re going to need if you’re interested in your business being as successful as it can be.
You’ll most likely need to look for your coach outside your organisation. You’ll want an independent business coach who has no ties with your business. Someone who has nothing to lose when they tell you you’re full of it …. (except perhaps their contract with you!).
So … is a business coach worth it?
If you’re prepared to invest the time, energy and money, a business coach can make a world of difference.
They’ll help you set goals and objectives that excite you and that you continue to feel inspired about. You’ll begin to see exactly what you can do – and how great your business can be. You’ll achieve some outstanding results – but they won’t happen overnight. A business coach isn’t usually a quick fix, although they can set the wheels turning in pretty short order. But achieving sustainable growth, change and development usually happens over time.
“…They are working equally as hard as we are on our business…” more
Investing in a business coach can sound like a giant leap of faith. Yet a great business coach is worth their weight in gold. In fact they should more than pay for themselves by the increase in profits you achieve. More than that, the results will be sustainable. The return on your investment will continue to come in long after your coach has gone.
A great business coach will help you achieve extraordinary results with less effort. You’ll enjoy the huge sense of satisfaction of heading towards where you want to be.
