RECENT FOCUS March 2010

HOW DO YOU REWARD YOUR VICTORIES?

Please feel free to forward this on

Reading time: under 5 minutes

Remember when you were young and you'd get a gold star for your achievements?

If that's too distant a memory, perhaps you remember rewards for "first place" in studies or sports.

If you're still struggling to remember - you might have young children who can't wait to come home to show you THEIR gold star.

Back then, it was easy to work out whether you were successful or not!

As a business owner, how do you determine victory in your business?

How do you know if you're winning or not?

Each victory is another step on the way to success.

One victory alone doesn't determine success, as one failure does not determine defeat. The journey to business success involves many victories, and often some defeats, along the way.

"Victory is won not in miles but in inches.

Win a little now, hold your ground, and later, win a little more"

Louis L'Armour

It's important too, to set up your team for victories.

One way to do this would be to set some targets for your business - things that would be considered worthy of celebration.

Make these visual enough so that they stand out and "can't be missed".

Make sure you update your visual display regularly so your whole team can watch the progress. This will help to spur your team on to greater success!

Most important, make sure you celebrate with your team when you are victorious

And if you FAIL (that happens sometimes) make sure your whole team learns why. Failing is not always a bad thing. It provides a unique opportunity to create something different - a breakthrough - more knowledge and more determination to succeed next time.

As a business owner, you need to be on the look-out for victories each and every day.

Make sure you're on the look-out for victories each and every day. Not just the big wins either, something as simple as getting a quote out to a customer in a timely manner could be a victory.

At the end of the day, YOU are the person who determines whether you're winning or not.
