Are you missing these 3 important steps as you finish 2009?

It’s hard to believe it’s mid December already.  There’s not much time left to complete the year and some of us will be well into the ritual of Christmas parties and the like.    Whatever else is going on, there’s something important you need to do -

1. Congratulate yourself

Make sure you take a moment to contemplate your achievements during the year.  If you had some specific goals you wanted to accomplish, then dig that list out of wherever it’s hiding (you did write them down, didn’t you?) and tick them off.  Job well done!   There’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a pat on the back – we don’t do it often enough.

Perhaps you accomplished some milestones in your business this year, or are well on the way to seeing some important objectives come to fruition.  Don’t forget to let those people important to you know what you’ve accomplished.  Spread the celebration around.

2. Acknowledge your team

It’s important you take the time to celebrate the wins, especially with your team.  Especially at this time of the year.  Acknowledge them for the part they played in it.  It’s a great way to send your team off for Christmas and the New Year.

3. Set yourself up for a win in 2010

If you can’t think of anything to congratulate yourself about, then now might be a good time to make sure you‘ll be congratulating yourself in December next year.

How can you do that? Well, you could start by setting your sights on some goals and objectives for next year (and preferably further into the future).

Remember, if you don’t know where you’re headed how are you going to get there?  On the other hand, in you have a goal in sight, you’ll be able to work out and strategise lots of different ways to get you there.

If you want to make 2010 an extraordinary year (and why wouldn’t you?) then you need to get your boots on now.  It’s not too late – in fact it’s a perfect time.

How would it be if, by the end of 2010, you could -

  • Reduce your expenses by half - without changing your business or personal lifestyle one iota!
  • Isolate your business banking so your family home and assets are no longer exposed if your business goes bust
  • Sustainably increase your business turnover by 18%
  • Sleep at night knowing that your legal documents will do what you want them to, when you want them to.
  • Know the direction your business is headed, and you’re already on the way
  • Reduce your insurance spend by 20%
  • Know the right questions to ask your accountant or solicitor, so that you get the answers you need (no more frustration and you don’t feel like a dummy)
  • Have your business systemised so that it can operate without you
  • Double your sales conversion rate (yes … a 100% increase!)
  • Reduce the amount of taxes you need to pay (legally of course)
  • Get on top of your cashflow and have your finger on the button on a daily basis, and  you know what the forecast is  2 months in advance
  • Eliminate your business banking OD once and for all
  • Increase your business profitability so that by December you’ve already surpassed your previous year’s profits
  • Have a growth plan for your business – better still, you’re implementing it

Any one of these sounds good to me.  They are just a few of the achievements we've helped our clients with this year.  It wasn’t rocket science.  It was setting the goals, and then doing what it took to get there.    A number of our clients have had a record year (when others in the same industry have fallen by the wayside).  They all operate in the same economy and in the same marketplace, so what’s the difference?

One thing is certain, having a direction to head towards, together with some clear goals and objectives, could make the difference between next year being an ordinary year or an extraordinary year.

What kind of year do YOU want 2010 to be?

Meri kirihimete. We wish you and your family a happy and safe festive season.

Relax! Enjoy! Rejuvenate!
